Compare the book to the movie - Post #2

Let's compare the book to the recent movie with Will Smith since many of you have seen the movie and are making your own comparisons. If you haven't seen the movie, you can comment on anything in the book that strikes you.

More info about the book, which is hard to find! I found nothing on the original 1954 version, some on the book from the 1990's which now has Will Smith on the cover, and lots on the Will Smith movie.

I think the typical Crichton novel always has a likeable character who we cheer for, a despicable character, and some annoying characters. In the book you are reading, briefly describe the main 3-5 characters and tell what each one's role seems to be.
